Client retention is a persistent challenge in problem gambling treatment, with many clients leaving services before they receive the full benefit of care. This continuing education webinar examines why premature dropout occurs and how providers can strengthen engagement from the first point of contact through ongoing treatment.

Drawing on findings from Oregon’s problem gambling treatment service system, the presentation highlights common reasons clients disengage, factors associated with positive treatment outcomes, and practical strategies providers can use to improve retention in clinical settings.

Participants will leave with evidence-informed approaches for identifying clients at risk of dropout, addressing barriers to continued participation, and supporting sustained engagement in problem gambling treatment.

Presenters
Instructor Raul Ramirez
Raul Ramirez, CADC II, CGAC II, QMHA is a Problem Gambling Treatment Specialist with the Oregon Health Authority. He is a bilingual (English/Spanish) provider and member of the Multiethnic Advisory Committee, supporting awareness and community-building around gambling-related harm among underserved populations. Raul has experience delivering clinical supervision for professionals pursuing CADC and CGAC credentials. He is a strong advocate for equity and culturally responsive care for LGBTQIA2S+ and Latinx communities, with expertise in program and systems development, engagement and retention strategies, and community education.

Instructor Paige Vazquez
Paige Vasquez, PhD is a research scientist at Problem Gambling Solutions, Inc. and an outpatient mental health provider at Mangata Wellness in Salem, Oregon. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University in 2023, with an emphasis in Latino/x psychology. Dr. Vasquez has six years of experience in behavioral, cognitive, and problem gambling research and is deeply committed to culturally responsive, community-engaged research.
Instructor Glenn Yamagata
Glenn Yamagata, MPhil is Executive Director of the Oregon Council on Problem Gambling. He is a trained economist and data scientist with Problem Gambling Solutions, Inc., and has nearly a decade of experience working in the problem gambling field. Glenn holds an MPhil in Economics and an MA in Statistics from Yale University. His work focuses on applying data-driven approaches to advance prevention, treatment, and policy related to problem gambling.
