This online training provides a high level overview of the models and terminology that are the foundation of problem gambling prevention work in Oregon. Developed by Oregon Health Authority (OHA) Problem Gambling Prevention Services (PGPS), this course is accredited for one CE hour.

This course is approved by the Mental Health & Addictions Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) for one continuing education (CE) hour. A CE hour is a measure used in continuing education programs to quantify the time spent during professional development activities. To earn CE hours, you will need to 1) attend all course sessions and complete all required course activities and 2) complete the course evaluation survey. A certificate of attendance will be made available on the Student Dashboard upon course completion.

Description

This course provides a high level overview of the models and terminology that are the foundation of the problem gambling prevention work in Oregon. The course covers the following topics: 1) eight dimensions of wellness, 2) spectrum of mental, emotional, and behavioral interventions (formerly known as the behavioral health continuum of care), 3) public health approach, 4) risk and protective factors, 5) developmental perspectives, 6) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Strategies, and 7) social ecology model.

Instructors

OHA Instructor Roxann Jones

Roxann Jones is currently the Problem Gambling Statewide Prevention and Outreach Specialist with the Oregon Health Authority. She brings over 35 years’ experience in designing and implementing prevention programs to address risky behaviors, as well as program management in problem gambling prevention/treatment, and children’s intensive mental health wraparound services. Roxann is passionate about building healthy communities and has provided leadership on a various task forces and committees at the community, state, and national level addressing issues that impact the overall health and well-being of communities.

OHA Instructor Andrew Cartmill

Andrew Cartmill, B.S., CPS, serves as a Senior Program Communication and Education Specialist with Washington County’s Addiction Services Program and is a certified trainer for suicide intervention and prevention programs. Andy has also created and voiced numerous ads and PSAs for radio, voiced several books-to-tape, hosted a county-specific television show and written copy and narrated educational videos.
