Description

This presentation focuses on the past, present, and future of peer support with older adult populations discussed through the lens of Mental Health and Addictions Association of Oregon (MHAAO) involvement in supporting these populations since 2015. Presenters discuss the various needs of this growing and diverse population, and how the peer support community is adapting to meet these needs.

Instructor Timothy Bowman

Timothy “Tim” Bowman, PWS, has built a long and meaningful career in the justice field, with emergency operations experience dating back to 1972 in Los Angeles County. After relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 2018, he continued his commitment to community service. At age 70, Tim came out of retirement to advance his recovery journey, earning his Peer Wellness Specialist Certificate and CRM II. Drawing on lived experience with mental health and substance use challenges, he supports older adults through his work with the Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative in Multnomah County.

Instructor Geoff Moser

Geoff Moser, BS, PWS is a person in long-term recovery from substance misuse and mental health challenges. For many years, he used alcohol and other substances to cope, resulting in serious negative consequences. On June 25, 2015, Geoff committed to living without alcohol or drugs and to addressing his mental health through healthy coping skills, medication, therapy, nutrition, and exercise. With over eight years in peer-delivered services, Geoff is passionate about supporting others and believes recovery is a unique, individualized process.
