ACORN
on-demand and live courses for mental health treatment providers, treatment supervisors, agency administrators, and prevention specialists
ACORN provides five main categories of courses. You may access all five categories or select the one that best matches your interests and continuing education needs.
ACORN is a leader in continuing education on problem gambling treatment. In addition to the 15 standalone courses, we created four course bundles to assist new professionals with course selection and sequencing.
ACORN offers 6 courses for problem gambling treatment clinical supervisors, consultants, agency administrators, and program managers. These on-demand, online trainings are accredited for CE hours/CEUs by NBCC, IGCCB, and MHACBO. Free.
The latest in ACORN's offerings are courses on integrated co-occurring disorders treatment. These trainings are accredited for continuing education hours/CEUs by IGCCB, NBCC, and MHACBO. They are free, courtesy of Oregon Health Authority.
On-demand. This course bundle has been curated with OHA Integrated Co-Occurring Disorders (ICD) Programs in mind. OHA ICD recommends this bundle as a way to satisfy requirements for the Integrated Co-Occurring Disorders Problem Gambling Specialist.
This course bundle includes trainings on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in mental health treatment, and more generally, in education, prevention, and health promotion.
Consistent with Mental Health and Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) requirements for CGAC I certification, ACORN offers 60 hours of continuing professional education in problem gambling treatment. These include the 30-hour, real-time Precertification course, as well as two options for advanced training: 1) the on-demand, 30-hour Working with Families in Problem Gambling Treatment course or 2) the hybrid, 30-hour Advanced Training for Problem Gambling Counselors.
Those seeking CGAC II certification may select either of the two advanced training options to fulfill MHACBO certification requirements. OHA PGS recommends completing both advanced training options at some point. The advanced training options are free for those living or working in Oregon.

Each course includes a series of topics, also known as modules. Videos, presentations, readings, and/or sample handouts are provided under each module. You are free to take as much time as you need to review these resources. Once you have reviewed and mastered the content of each module, you will be required to pass a short quiz before proceeding to the next module. You must pass all of the quizzes before you are eligible for verification that you have successfully completed a course.
We suggest you take your time, view content as many times as you like, and access suggested readings and resources when possible. It is not necessary to complete a course in a single sitting. You are free to open and close a course as many times as you like.
We ask you to have an open attitude as you go through ACORN courses. At times it may seem as if we are reviewing what you already know. However, paying close attention is likely to provide an opportunity to realize subtle differences and important nuances in mental health treatment and supervision. Finally, we hope you enjoy this learning format and that ACORN courses support your many contributions to clients, and agencies.
ACORN has been approved by the International Gambling Counselor Certification Board (IGCCB) and the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) to provide continuing education courses. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. ACORN is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
